On 20 September 2010 in Mumbai, the Indian Institute of Packaging announced three concurrent events that will concurrently take place in the city from 30th September to 3rd October 2010. These are the International Exhibition and Summit for the Packaging Industry, and the Indiastar and Pacmachine Awards. Packaging Innovations and Sustainability is the theme of the summit which will be held at the Hotel Renaissance, Mumbai during 1st and 2nd October, 2010.
Subodh Kant Sahay, Minister for Food Processing Industries, Government of India, will be the chief guest and will inaugurate the conference. In addition, Keith Pearson, President, World Packaging Organisation and other dignitaries from the Asian Packaging Federation will also attend the event. About 30 speakers from the various parts of the world are expected to present papers over the two days. Over 700 delegates from India as well as from adjacent countries are expected to take part.
The national awards for excellence in packaging, the Indiastar and Pacmachine Award ceremonies will also be held during the conference. The Institute initiated these awards 20 years ago to motivate and recognize the importance of the packaging business and its development. The winners of the national award -- the Indiastar, qualify to participate in the Asiastar and Worldstar competitions.
Concurrently, the Institute is also organizing the biennial mega event – Indiapack 2010 an International Packaging Exhibition. The exhibition will be held at Bombay Exhibition Centre, Western Express Highway, Goregaon (West), Mumbai during 30th September to 3rd October, 2010. Dr Rahul Khuller, Commerce Secretary, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India will be present as the chief guest at the inaugural.
This time, the Institute has taken attempted to raise the stakes by associating the event with two allied exhibitions – International Food Tech and Asia Coat and Ink Show. The entire exhibition will take up more than 20,000 square meters with about 400 exhibitors from India and abroad showcasing their products and the latest trends and technology in terms of packaging materials, machinery and systems along with food processing and raw material. The main objective of this exhibition is to bring all the stake holders who are directly or indirectly related to packaging to a common platform and allow them to inter-act on the latest trends and technologies in their respective fields. This would help in the cross-fertilization of ideas, technologies and businesses.
The exhibition is being organized with the support of 16 Industry Associations besides World Packaging Organisation and Asian Packaging Federation. The event is also supported by Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Ministry of Food Processing Industry, Ministry of Textiles and Government of Maharashtra. Packaging South Asia is among the media partners of this event.
