THE INDONESIAN PRINTING INDUSTRY
• In the last decade of the 70’s there are about 1700 printing companies registered by the Indonesia Department of Industry from a total of 15000 company that scattered all over Indonesia. Presently there are about 27000 printing companies of which Indonesia Master Printers Association which now called Indonesia Print & Media Association members are 6,424.
• About 82% are Small Scale Printing companies
• 11% are Medium Scale Printing companies
• 7% are Large Scale Printing’s companies, out of an estimated 21000 companies
DEPENDENT ON IMPORT
• As the world 5th populous countries in the world, with a population of 235 million people, the growth of the printing industries is not that impressive compare with the neighboring countries such as Malaysia, Singapore or Thailand. We are still depending on import for most of Printing Equipments and for the basic printing supplies such as plate, inks, chemicals.
• Newsprint, packaging paper and writing paper are locally available and sufficient with over than 83 paper mills all over Indonesia.
THE IMPORTANT OF PRINTING INDUSTRY
• With the political will and economic stability, the present government is seriously working toward the road map of the Printing Industries for the next 25 years, as they realized that the industries playing an important role for the continuing growth of the economies, education and to preserve the cultural tradition. In the 50’s Printing Industries are playing an important roles on the Independence of Indonesia in 1945 and becoming the top 5 industries in the 50’s.
IN RELATION WITH THE PAPER INDUSTRY
• The growth of the Printing Industry is very closely related with the pulp and paper industries, without them we can’t be what we can be today

CONCLUSION:
• Even more and more people and the industries tried to persuade people to use less and less paper (toward the paper less environment) for a country like Indonesia which is in the state of growth, the paper consumption is growing faster from year to year as shown on the graphic above. Our domestic consumption in 2005 is only 24 kg/year compare with Malaysia at 56 kg/year or the USA at about 300 kg/year. Therefore there are plenty of opportunity to catch up for the printing industries in Indonesia.

- Be competitive
- Good after sales and services
- Good knowledge of the market
- Fully supporting the industries with knowhow and technology.
- Offering the right equipment and supplies
- Working closely with the related Association.
