Unite has announced its second 24-hour strike at Newsquest Glasgow, with a 48-hour strike expected at a later date.

The union is also taking legal advice after Newsquest brought in agency workers to cover for striking employees earlier this month.

Staff at the plant went on strike on the day of the general election last week (6 May), citing a second year of wage freezes.

According to Unite, Newsquest is yet to negotiate over the freeze and therefore a second strike has been planned for next Wednesday (19 May).

Unite national officer Steve Sibbald said: "There are plans for a longer stoppage after that if the company continues to ignore us.

"The chapel is not looking for a huge increase. What they resent is that Glasgow is successful and profitable but they have been subjected to a corporate decision made in Chicago."

Newsquest could not be reached for comment.
