The project covers the supply and installation of new drives and controls for the 40 CT50 reelstands on four Goss Colorliner presses with systems based upon industry standard, off-the-shelf components, which will eliminate obsolete proprietary systems In addition splice and waste performance will be improved and maintenance time will be reduced, said Harland Simon.

Singapore Press Holdings' decision was governed by Harland Simon being the only company to have an established track record of success in control replacement for the CT45 and CT50 range, with 30 units already installed or on order.

Anthony Cheng, Singapore Press Holdings' executive vice president of production, said: 'Harland Simon offered us a system that best met our requirements and we are satisfied its technical competence, and with its successful track record in the replacement of Goss reelstand controls.

The standard Harland Simon system provides for control of the reel, tension, pasting and sequencing but will be customised to suit the specific needs of Singapore Press Holdings, including interfaces to new and current press control systems, the roll handling, colour register and outfeed tension systems.

Another new feature is the use of full-colour HMI touchscreens for setting and diagnostic functions.

In addition to the control equipment Harland Simon will provide new encoders for the dancer position feedback, spider rotation feedback and belt drive control.

In addition all the reelstands will be networked to a centralised maintenance PC for support and diagnostics, which is also connected to Harland Simon's 24-hour, seven days-a-week on-line support service.
