Xeikon has received the 2009 Intertech Technology Award for the Xeikon 3300 digital colour press.

The Xeikon 3000 is claimed to provide imaging quality and productivity to label converters for economical and environmentally-friendly production of short to medium runs and just-in-time jobs.

The press is also said to provide true 1,200 dots per inch (dpi) at four bits per spot.

With a top speed of 63 linear feet per minute and a monthly duty cycle of 2.3 million linear feet, the Xeikon 3300 is designed to operate 24 hours-a-day, said the company.

It includes five colour stations: four for the standard process colours and the fifth colour station for spot colours.

The spot colours can be used for gamut expansion or for producing specific brand colours.

The fifth colour station can also be utilised for printing on transparent films using Xeikon's one-pass opaque white toner and for security printing using Xeikon's security toner.

Operating on the Xeikon Form Adapted (FA) toner, the Xeikon 3300 is FDA-approved for use in certain food contact applications.

The dry toner electrophotography imaging process of the Xeikon 3300 enables the use of conventional substrates without coating or pre-treatment and emits no VOCs or other hazardous substances, said Xeikon.

The printed output of the Xeikon 3300 is fully recyclable.

The press also features full rotary printing technology, enabling printing at rated engine speeds.

According to Michael V Ring, vice president of sales and chief marketing officer at Xeikon's North American operations, said: 'The Xeikon 3300 provides two mutually exclusive capabilities together to label converters, and not sacrificing one for the sake of the other.' Filip Weymans, business development manager for labels and packaging at Punch Graphix International, added: 'The Intertech award is the second major industry recognition for the Xeikon 3300.

It also won the New Innovation Award at the fifth annual Label Industry Global Awards last year.

These accolades from our industry experts, as well as the tremendous sales success we are experiencing with the 3300, demonstrate that it is a quantum leap in digital label printing.
