CKD, formerly known as Carr Kamasa Design, is a London-based design agency that was established in 1990. The company specialises in producing annual reports and corporate literature. It recently produced a 1,000-run report for electric scooter manufacturer Vectrix, featuring rock musician Jonny Borrell.

David McTaff is CKD’s company and account director. He works with three partners, a junior account director, an account manager, a business development manager and a part-time business developer.

He currently uses Essex-based Spin Offset as the company’s principal printer, although he occasionally uses local digital businesses for ad hoc work. McTaff has also printed projects in the US and Australia.

CKD has 30 clients with average print runs of around 5,000 copies. McTaff says: “We have a great relationship with Spin Offset. Rob Born and Ian Scotter are friends, as well as being trusted suppliers.”

When choosing printers, McTaff looks for value for money, quality and “a can-do mentality”. He says: “We have shared values with Spin and their team. A commitment to quality and excellence, pride in our work and a recognition that life is too short and we should enjoy the working partnership.”

McTaff says his experience in printing has helped him prevent the vast majority of problems he could encounter. He adds: “We manage our clients’ expectations thoroughly and plan to expect the unexpected.”

Over the next few years, McTaff expects the annual report market to get smaller due to the increase in online reports. He anticipates that it will then stabilise before experiencing a period of growth.
