On 16 March 2006, a foundation laying ceremony was held at the construction site of the new building for C & C Joint Printing Co., (Shanghai) Ltd. and Shanghai Security Printing Co., Ltd. at the Qingpu Industrial Zone. It was a fine morning and guests were greeted by a colourful display of festive flags.

Attending this ceremony were Mr Charles Lo Chi Hong, Chief Executive Officer of C & C Joint Printing Co., (H.K.) Ltd. and Managing Director of C & C Joint Printing Co., (Shanghai) Ltd.; Mr Zhuang Xian-qing, Mr Zhang Yue-ming, Ms Candy Wong Siu-ngan and Mr Jackson Leung Siu-yin, Board members of C & C Joint Printing Co., (Shanghai) Ltd.; Mr Zhou Fang, Managing Director of Shanghai Security Printing Co., Ltd.; Mr Yu Hai-ping, General Manager of Qingpu Industrial Zone; Mr Yu Xue-ze, General Manager of Shaoxing No. 1 Construction Group Co., Ltd. (Shanghai Branch), the main contractor of the project; Mr Weng Wei-min, Head of No. 4 Consultancy and Design Institute of China Haisum Engineering Co., Ltd.; and colleagues from C & C and Shanghai Security Printing.

The ceremony started with an address by Mr Lo Chi Hong: “On this early spring day in Shanghai, the air is still a little chilly, but our hearts are warm with joy and thrill. As you all know, Chung Hwa Book Company and the Commercial Press are the oldest Chinese publication and printing enterprises, and the ancestors of C & C. These prestigious companies both originated in Shanghai. That is why I always say Shanghai is our cradle for development. Today, all of us at C & C are overwhelmed with joy that we have the opportunity to come back to Shanghai to build a production base. This facility enables us to carry forward the aspirations of our forebears, and to make contributions to drive further the development of China's printing industry. C & C has always thrived on a heritage of pragmatism and steadfast effort. The foundation laying ceremony today is by no means extravagant, but it is a very solemn occasion because, in addition to our colleagues, we are honored by the presence of our business partners, including General Manager Mr Yu Hai-ping and other members of Qingpu Industrial Zone, leaders of the Xianghua Town Community Office of Qingpu, and the leaders and colleagues from Shaoxing No. 1 Construction Group Co., Ltd. (Shanghai Branch). We are sincerely grateful for all your support and assistance.”

As a conclusion, Mr Lo said, “Nothing is impossible and determination will reap success. Let us all work together towards our goal, and develop the C & C Shanghai base into a modern printing base of Eastern China. I firmly believe that we can realize this goal, and that our aspiration will come true.” Mr Lo’s speech is brief yet highly significant and motivating.

Following his address, Mr Yu Hai-ping and Mr Yu Xue-ze each delivered a short speech, indicating they would render full support to C & C to ensure smooth completion of the construction project as planned. As the head of the industrial zone and the main contractor of this major project respectively, they demonstrated trustworthiness and a great sense of responsibility.

Amidst the jubilant sound of firecrackers, the management members of C & C Joint Printing Co., (Shanghai) Ltd. and Shanghai Security Printing Co., Ltd. came together to cut the ceremonial roast pig, a well wishing rite to get the project off to a good start. Following this, Mr Zhuang Xian-qing and Mr Zhang Yue-ming jointly unveiled the foundation stone, and the foundation laying ceremony for the new building of C & C Joint Printing Co., (Shanghai) Ltd. and Shanghai Security Printing Co., Ltd. was completed as key management representatives filled the foundation stone with soil.

Located in Qingpu Industrial Zone and bordering Caoying Road in the east and Beiqing Highway in the south, the site of C & C Shanghai production base overlooks the Xidaying harbour. Set in a scenic part of the city, it occupies a total area of more than 140,000 square metres and is well placed for easy transportation. Phase I of the development project comprises two sizeable integrated printing companies, namely C & C Joint Printing Co., (Shanghai) Ltd. and Shanghai Security Printing Co., Ltd. Together, these two enterprises make up a large production base for Eastern China, serving clients in Shanghai city as well, Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces. It is also destined to be the second largest printing production base for C & C. The establishment of the Shanghai company will be a milestone in the development of C & C, as well as a major event in the growth and development of China’s printing industry.
