  " GretagMacbeth announced the delivery of the 1,000th Prinect ImageControl on-the-press color control system to Heidelberg. Prinect ImageControl is a key component of the Heidelberg Prinect total workflow solution.

  " Bielomatik and Gateway Bookbinding Systems will development and enhance high-volume automated solutions for plastic spiral binding. Bielomatik has incorporated Gateways Plastikoil forming technology in its new P22-48 semi-automatic spiral binding machine.

  " For the first time, MBOs fully automated folders, with its Rapidset electronic setup system, outsold traditional models. MBO introduced a new rental program. MBO Finances Teneyke Smith says the program offers an off-balance-sheet financing and credit for rents paid toward purchase at any time.

  " Punch Graphix Americas sold more than 20 Xeikon digital color printing and basysPrint CTP/prepress systems.

  " Akiyama sold the 10-color (5/5), 40-inch Jprint perfector in its booth to Millbrook Printing (Grand Ledge, MI). Millbrook, a trade printer, showcased the new equipment to its clients at an open house on November 4, 2005.

  " Screen USA demonstrated TruePress Jet520, a roll-fed variable printing inkjet printer featuring Seiko Epson piezo drop-on-demand heads.

  " Agfa sold more than 100 new digital systems, including platesetters, software, large-format digital inkjet printers, a digital inkjet press and consumables. The company announced its :Azura chemistry-free plate system now is used in more than 300 printing and prepress sites around the world. Also, 1,000 customers around the world are using Agfas advanced :Sublima XM screening solution, which is available to all :ApogeeX workflow and non-Agfa CTP users.

  " KBA reported the following sales:

  Large and super-large format: National Posters (Chattanooga, TN) purchased a Rapida 205 81-inch, seven-color plus coater sheetfed press. MOR Printing (Tamarac, FL) bought a Rapida 142 56-inch, six-color plus coater, large-format sheetfed press with hybrid UV capabilities.

  41-inch market: Paragraphics (San Rafael, CA) bought the KBA Rapida 105 41-inch, six-color sheetfed press with coater and UV hybrid capabilities seen on the show floor. Commercial Printers (Pompano Beach, FL) bought a Rapida 105 41-inch, five-color perfector press to be delivered in December.

  Medium and small format: TopLine Printing and Graphics, a commercial printer located in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, and West Palm Beach, FL, will install at KBA 74 Karat digital offset press plus coater. 3S Printers Inc. (Burnaby, BC) signed for a 74 Karat plus coater. Full Color Printing Inc. (Las Vegas) has signed an agreement to purchase a KBA Performa 74 five-color plus coater.

  Genius 52 UV press sales included: Marketing Services by Vectra (Columbus, OH); Crawford Industries; Rey Nelson Printing Inc., (Ontario, CA); Spectrum Lithograph (Fremont, CA); and Big3D.com.


  " Inline finishing vendor G?mmerler reported sales of more than $3 million. Highlights include multiple equipment purchases from Quad Graphics, Dartmouth Printing, The Worcester Telegram & Gazette, Lane Press, Transcontinental Printing and Signature Graphics. Engle Printing and Publishing, Nebraska Printing (Tampa, FL), Vox Printing and Excel Graphics also placed orders.

  " Pitman Co. has created a wide-format graphics division headed by Barry Budwit. Its portfolio will include solvent, eco-solvent, UV curable and aqueous equipment as well as inks, media and finishing solutions.

  " HP took in more than 86 orders, amounting to nearly $33 million in sales and an additional projected $30 million over the next three years in supplies. HP Indigo 5000 sales were made to Color Craft (Sterling, VA), Graphic Partners (Zion, IL), Taylor Publishing (Dallas, TX), and a pair to Reischling Press (Seattle, WA). Approximately 30 percent of HPs buyers were existing HP Indigo customers. HP and Seiko Infotech will jointly develop and market low solvent-based, wide-format printers for the outdoor graphics printing market. The first products are expected to be available in 2006.

  " MAN Rolands 64-inch ROLAND 900 XXL with Maxson sheeter went from the show floor to Superior Lithographics (Los Angeles). Monarch Litho purchased five MAN Roland presses: a 73-inch Roland 900 XXL six-color-with-coater and a 41-inch Roland 700 six-color perfector with coater are slated for Monarchs Montebello, CA, plant. A second Roland 700 six-color perfector with coater, as well as an eight-color Roland 700 perfector with coater, are destined for Monarchs new facility in San Teresa, NM. A third Roland 700 six-color perfector with coater will go to the companys plant in Juarez, Mexico.

  Meredith-Webb (Burlington, NC) selected a 64-inch, six-color ROLAND 900 XXL with coater.

  Vancouvers Metropolitan Fine Printers purchased an eight-color Roland 700 perfector to go with three existing MAN Roland perfectors.

  The U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) bought a five-color ROLAND 700 perfector with inline coating.

  Rinaldi Printing (Tampa, FL) selected a five-color ROLAND 700 with inline coating.

  General Press Corp. signed for a seven-color ROLAND 700 and a six-color ROLAND 500. The commercial printing and packaging solutions provider is located near Pittsburgh.

  Utah Paper Boxs (UPB) (Salt Lake City) ROLAND 700 starts with a printing unit, followed by a perfector, an inline coating unit and a double drying extension. Then six more printing units appear, followed by a second inline coating unit and yet another double extension for drying.

  Bellshire Limited in Toronto chose a six-color ROLAND 500 with coater for its packaging work.

  Torontos St. Joseph Print is making a $40 million capital investment in three new MAN ROTOMAN S web heatset presses: an eight-unit, 48-page press; a six-unit, 16-page press; and a four-unit, 16-page press. All are set for installation in 2006.

  " Ryobi showed a half-size, eight-color press with perfecting and UV curing; a new DI press using hybrid UV inks; and a complete MIS/workflow system. xpedx Printing Technologies (the former xpedx Import Group) sales included 30 presses worth more than $10.8 million, including presses from the 23 x 29 Ryobi 750 series; 14 x 20 Ryobi 524 series; and the Ryobi 3404-DI series.

  " Presstek reported more than $5 million in sales commitments received, representing approximately 100 units of equipment. The company will team with EFI to develop a range of products for smaller quick, commercial and in-plant shops, and for the franchise print market. Presstek Facet RIP, the first product, can be used with Presstek- and ABDick-branded digital output devices, including DI presses and Dimension, Vector TX52 and DPM platesetters.

  " Artwork Systems Group reported $2.6 million in orders. Highlights included Odystar Packaging, inPDF (a PDF link for Adobe Illustrator), Concentric Screening and Enfocus PitStop Automate. Twelve Odystar workflow systems were sold. Enfocus signed two new OEM deals with Quad/Graphics and Screen.

  " Komori America Corp.s $100 million in sales includes a $15 million order from Consolidated Graphics for nine presses to be installed in its plants around the United States. Frederic Printing (Aurora, CO) and Emerald City Graphics (Kent, WA) will install six-color Komori Lithrone S40P perfector presses. Keys Printing (Greenville, SC), S&S Graphics (Laurel MD), McKay Press (Midland, MI), Printing Inc. (Wichita, KS), Ironwood Lithographers (Tempe, AZ), Mercury Printing (Memphis, TN) and Graphtec (Annapolis Junction, MD) will get six-color Lithrone S40 machines.

  " Kodak rang up $71.5 million in sales for its integrated portfolio of products and services, including digital presses, proofing systems, workflow management software and CTP equipment, as well as the Kodak NexPress 2100 plus and 2500 digital production color presses. Kodak also enjoyed strong sales for version 3.0 of Prinergy workflow management software; Kodak DirectPress DI Presses; Kodak Approval proofing systems; and Matchprint Virtual and InSite remote and monitor proofing systems.

  " Domino Amjet says American Web (Denver) bought a Bitjet+, while Dome Printing (Sacramento, CA), purchased a JetArray variable-data inkjet printer and Editor GT Controller package to join the two Bitjet+ units it recently added. Dome will use the new equipment in a VDP application for printing addresses in a magazine between stitching and stacking equipment.

  " Heidelberg celebrated the 5,000th printing unit of its Speedmaster CD 74. The milestone press will go to Phil Vedda & Sons Printing Co. (Lakewood, OH). Showcased for the first time at Drupa 2000, the press went into series production at the start of 2001. In 2002, the vendor introduced the CD 74 with dual coating unit. An optional perfecting device was exhibited at Drupa 2004, followed by the Speedmaster CD 74 Duo and, consequently, the combination of offset and flexographic. The CD 74 is now available as a straight printing press and as a perfecting press with up to 10 printing units that generate a maximum speed of 15,000 sph.
